"Six New Members added to Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame"

Augusta, Maine [April 7, 2008] – Six deserving individuals entered the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame as members of the Class of 2008 on Saturday, April 5th, at the Augusta (Maine) Civic Center. The Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremonies were presented by the Maine Vintage Race Car Association.

The Class of 2008 is as diverse as any of the previous four groups to be inducted. The six new inductees included a track manager and former NASCAR Cup Series team owner; a championship car owner and official; a track owner, builder and promoter; a five-time championship driver, builder and official; a racing pioneer and a track announcer. "Wayne True, Dan McKeage presented Special Awards at Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame Ceremonies"

Augusta, Maine [April 7, 2008] – Vintage race car enthusiast Wayne True and PASS Sportsman Series champion Dan McKeage were presented special awards by the Maine Vintage Race Car Association at the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame Class of 2008 dinner and induction ceremonies. "Adams, Bilodeau, McKeage finalists for MVRCA Driver-of-the-Year Award"

Auburn, Maine [March 16, 2008] – Travis Adams, Bub Bilodeau and Dan McKeage - three Maine drivers, three champions - are the three Finalists for the "Maine Driver-of-the-Year Award" to be presented by the Maine Vintage Race Car Association at the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame Class of 2008 dinner and induction ceremonies. The Hall of Fame festivities are scheduled for Saturday evening, April 5th, at the Augusta (Maine) Civic Center.

The MVRCA recognizes three Maine drivers who have had an outstanding 2007 racing season. Each of the three Finalists will receive a special plaque from the Maine Vintage Race Car Association. Later during the ceremonies, one of the three Finalists will be honored with the "Maine Driver-of-the-Year Award".

Travis Adams (right top) drove to six Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stock feature race wins at Oxford Plains Speedway in 2007 on his way to his second consecutive track championship and third overall. The Canton, Maine driver closed the season by winning the ACT Late Model Tour 150 at his home track.

Veteran driver Bib Bilodeau (right center) had one his most successful seasons in his career. The Sebago, Maine driver won five NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series feature races at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway as he captured the 2007 track championship and second title overall.

Dan McKeage (right bottom) won one championship and finished second in another for a busy 2007. The Gorham, Maine driver captured the Pullen Industries Pro All Stars Series Sportsman Series championship by winning three of the eight series’ events. In addition, McKeage won two NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series feature races atBeech Ridge on his way to a runner-up finish in the championship point standings.

Previous recipients of the "Maine driver-of-the-Year Award" are Ben Rowe (2003), Carey Martin (2004), Ben Rowe (2005) and Jeff Taylor (2006).

"Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame Class of 2008 announced; Nutting, Walker, D. Bahre, Knowles among Six to be Inducted"

Auburn, Maine [November 15, 2007] – Two legendary drivers, a track owner/promoter, a car owner/track official, a track builder/general manager and a long time track announcer will be inducted into the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame in the spring of 2008.

The six members of the Class of 2008 were announced on Sunday, November 11th, at the General Meeting of the Maine Vintage Race Car Association. Bruce Elder, vice-president of the MVRCA and co-chairman of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee, had the honor of announcing the names of the six inductees.

The Class of 2008 is comprised of: Dick Bahre, general manager of Oxford Plains Speedway for over 20 years; Tony Dipompo, championship car owner and track official; Bob Knowles, owner/promoter of Unity Raceway; Russ Nutting, fifty-year racing veteran; Otis Perry, legendary driver of the 1940’s and 1950’s; and Bob Walker, Oxford Plains Speedway announcer for over thirty years. "Dave Darveau, Dick Berggren named to the New England Hall of Fame Class of 2008"

Milldale, Conn. [November 4, 2007] – Maine racing legend Dave Darveau and former Beech Ridge Motor Speedway track record holder Dr. Dick Berggren are among the eight individuals who make up the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame Class of 2008.

A 40-plus year racing veteran, Darveau won at least six track championships at Unity Raceway and a Late Model title at Wiscasset Speedway. In addition to Unity and Wiscasset, Darveau won races at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Speedway 95, Spud Speedway, Arundel Speedway and Oxford Plains Speedway. During his racing career, Darveau raced at eighteen different tracks from the Canadian Maritimes to Florida.

Darveau was inducted into the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame as a member of the inaugural class in 2004.

The multi-talented Berggren has driven race cars, wrote about them, talked about them and took their pictures, the latter three on the highest of levels. Starting out at Arundel (ME) Speedway and calling Beech Ridge his "home track" from 1975 - 1978, he is presently one of the most recognized TV announcers in the country. "Racing Legend, Hall of Fame Member Tiger White Passes Away

Carthage, Maine [July 31, 2007] - Elijah 'Tiger' White, a Maine racing legend and member of the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame, passed away on Monday, July 30th, at his home. He was 92 years old.

Tiger White began racing in 1965 at Oxford Plains Speedway at the age of 50. His driving career lasted only five years, winning at Oxford Plains and Speedway 95 in Bangor. He retired from driving following injuries he sustained in a racing accident in 1970. Tiger returned as a car owner and together with Stan Horne, they won the track championship in 1975 at Oxford Plains.

He was born September 14, 1914, a son of Elmer and Flora (Scribner) White and received his education in local schools. On March 18, 1934, he married Helen Mae Worster in Upton. She died in 2004.

He was a self-employed woodsman and lumberman and had been an original inventor of the modern day skidder. He was an active member of the Carthage community and was a member of the Carthage Historical Society and the Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge, 154, AF and AM, of Weld. He enjoyed stock car racing, having been a driver himself, and was a member of the Maine Motor Sports Hall of Fame, being inducted in 2005. Tiger was an avid Red Sox fan and a member of the Maine Logger's Museum.

He is survived by his children, Elijah White Jr. and his partner, Sue Cousens, of Windham, Marie Conant of Waterville, Wayne White and his wife, Emmy, of Carthage, Gloria Ellis and her husband, Ronald, of Carthage, Ronald White of Carthage, Meredith Robbins and her husband, Randy, of Dixfield, and Doreen Smith and her husband, Dean, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; 27 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife; and three sisters; and five brothers.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice, P. O. Box 797, Wilton, ME 04294.

"SUMMERFEST 2007 Cookout & Vintage Celebration scheduled for August 12"

Auburn, Maine [January 31, 2007] – The fifth edition of the SUMMERFEST Cookout & Vintage Celebration is scheduled for Sunday, August 12th, at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine.

Presented by the Maine Vintage Race Car Association, SUMMERFEST is one of the fastest growing vintage race car events in New England. The first "cookout" in 2003 had a half-dozen restored vintage race cars and about two dozen people interested in re-living racing history. For the rest of the story.
