Class of 2012 Hall of Fame

The Selection Committee of the Maine Motorsports
Hall of Fame recently announced the names of the
five individuals to be inducted into the hall of
fame. The Class of 2012 is made up of three race
drivers, a car owner/crew chief and one who wrote
about the excitement on the track.
The Class of
2012 inductees are: drivers Glen Andrews, Ray
Leach and Bob Turner, car owner/crew chief Conrad
Taylor and motorsports writer Bob Morris.
Presented by the Maine Vintage Race Car
Association, the Hall of Fame Class of 2012 dinner
and induction ceremonies will be held at the Augusta
Civic Center on Saturday,
March 31, 2012. The Maine Motorsports Hall of
Fame was founded in 2004 and presently has 60
members.

GLEN ANDREWS
Twenty year racing career began
as a 15-year old when Oxford Plains Speedway opened in 1950;
consistent top finisher, won on dirt and assault; 1960
champion at Northeastern Speedway in Vermont.

CONRAD TAYLOR
Crew chief and car owner for over twenty years, won nine
track championships and over 60 races with son Jeff at
Oxford Plains Speedway.

BOB TURNER
Began racing at 16 at Arundel Speedway and Hudson (NH)
Raceway; raced Modifieds round New England; sat on the pole
for the original “Spring Sizzler” in 1972 at Stafford (CT)
Motor Speedway; raced at Beech Ridge for 20 years.

RAY LEACH
Twenty-five year racing career began in 1960 at Beech Ridge
Speedway; won Modified and ‘B’ Class Bomber championships at
Beech Ridge; tutored son Steve; member of the Beech Ridge
Hall of Fame.

BOB MORRIS
Spent nearly thirty years covering motorsports in Maine and
New Hampshire, wrote for New England Speedway Scene and
Lewiston Sun Journal SUNDAY; published Oxford Plains
Speedway souvenir program; show director for Northeast
Motorsports Expo & Trade Show for 20 years; cofounded Maine
Vintage Race Car Association.

2012 SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDS
Two highly respected individuals will be honored
posthumously at the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame induction
dinner and ceremonies on Saturday evening, March 31st.
Clifford Cyr and Roger Shaw will be saluted for their
significant contributions to motorsports in the State of
Maine.

CLIFF CYR
Was involved in auto racing at Oxford Plains Speedway for
nearly twenty-five years. He built his first race car in
high school in the early 1950s. In the early 1960s, Cliff
was solely a car owner, chief mechanic and car builder with
as many as four race cars at his shop at one time. He
retired in 1973, giving the race cars to the drivers.

ROGER SHAW
Shaw's racing career was about fifteen years. But, during
those fifteen or so years, he put first the #44 and later
the #49 Ford coupes into victory lane on a regular basis. He
introduced the first high-Performance 289 c.i. Ford motor to
racing at Beech Ridge Speedway. Roger won three track
championships - one at Oxford Plains Speedway and two at
Beech Ridge Speedway (1954, 1960). He is also a member of
the Beech Ridge Hall of Fame.
