SPRINGFIELD SPEEDWAY

The origin of Springfield Speedway is similar to a number of Maine race tracks in the 1950's. Springfield was a fairgrounds facility converted to stock car racing. And, like many former fairgrounds, Springfield Speedway had a covered grandstand.

Springfield hosted stock car races longer than many of the fairgrounds/race tracks of the era. Springfield opened in 1957 and held stock car races on Sunday afternoons through the 1966 season.

The above page dedicated to Springfield Speedway was in the 1967 Spring edition of the "Cavalcade of Auto Racing'. All the above photos were from the 1966 season.
