The
origin of Springfield Speedway is similar to a number of Maine
race tracks in the 1950's. Springfield was a fairgrounds
facility converted to stock car racing. And, like many former
fairgrounds, Springfield Speedway had a covered grandstand. Springfield
hosted stock car races longer than many of the fairgrounds/race
tracks of the era. Springfield opened in 1957 and held stock car
races on Sunday afternoons through the 1966 season. |
