Ridge Speedway was built on the site of an old horse track in
1949 at the corner of Holmes Road and Two Rod Road in
Scarborough by Jim McConnell. The one-third mile clay oval
opened on May 30, 1949. In the early years, the track had races
on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.
In 1973,
McConnell sold Beech Ridge to Calvin Reynolds, a local
motorcycle dealer and two-time track champion race driver. Eight
years later, Reynolds sold the facility to another championship
winning race driver - Ralph Cusack, a 12-time champion.
In 1985, the
clay-oil racing surface was hauled away, replaced by a smooth
asphalt racing surface. Now owned and operated by Andy Cusack,
Beech Ridge is the only NASCAR-sanctioned race track in Maine. |
